Choosing the right machine

What size mini excavator do I need?

Most Perth homeowners choose between 1.2 and 2 tonne (R13 PRO, R15, R18 PRO, R22 PRO). For very tight access choose the R06 or R10. See our buying guide.

Should I get a skid steer or an excavator?

Excavators dig; skid steers move and level material. Read skid steer vs mini excavator.

What engines do Rippa machines use?

Most R-series excavators and RS skid steers are listed with Kubota diesel engines. The R82 PRO lists a Yanmar or Changchai engine and the RS03 a Briggs & Stratton engine. Check each product page for details.

Attachments

How do I know an attachment fits my machine?

The compatible model is in the attachment's name (e.g. “for R22” or “for RS06/RS07”). See the attachment guide.

Do excavators come with a quick hitch?

The R10 to R32 PRO are listed with a hydraulic quick hitch. Check the product page for exactly what's included.

Finance

Can I finance a machine?

Yes, through our partners Emu Money and FD Finance. Finance is subject to approval. See the finance page.

Can attachments be included?

Ask about including attachments in your quote so the whole setup is covered.

Operating and safety

Do I need a licence to operate a mini excavator in WA?

There's no high risk work licence class for excavators, but training, competency and site rules apply. Read our guide and check WorkSafe WA.

How do I check for underground services?

Use Before You Dig Australia (byda.com.au) before you dig. See Before You Dig in WA.

How do I transport my machine?

On a suitably rated trailer with a vehicle that can legally tow the combined weight. See towing a mini excavator in WA, or ask us about getting it to your site.
