R15 Mini Excavator with Kubota Engine and Hydraulic Quick Hitch

Spring Jobs to Tackle Around Your Perth Property Before Summer

Spring is prime digging season in Perth. The winter rain has softened the ground, the days are mild, and there's still time to finish big outdoor jobs before summer heat and bushfire season. Here's what to put on the list.

1. Fix winter drainage problems

Where did water pool this winter? Spring is the time to add soakwells, French drains or regrade areas while the problem is fresh in your mind and before next year's rain. A tilt bucket makes shaping drainage falls much easier.

2. Install or upgrade reticulation

Get new reticulation lines in before the watering days of summer. A compact excavator like the R10 or a skid steer trencher cuts neat, consistent trenches quickly.

3. Build retaining walls and garden beds

Spring soil is easier to dig and compact than rock-hard summer ground. Dig footings, place blocks and backfill while conditions are good.

4. Prepare firebreaks

Many WA shires set firebreak deadlines in late spring and early summer. Check your shire's firebreak notice for your property's requirements and dates, and plan machine work early rather than in the last week.

5. Clear green waste and stumps

Winter storms leave branches and fallen trees. A rake, grab or stump grinder clears it up and reduces fuel load before summer.

6. Pools, patios and outdoor areas

Want the pool or patio ready for summer? Excavation and base preparation need to happen now. A 1.5–2 tonne machine such as the R15 or R22 PRO suits most backyard pool digs.

7. Fence lines

An auger attachment drills post holes along a whole fence line in a fraction of the time.
